DAY ONE

My name is Sarah Sun, and I am the shortest person to grace the Canadian IMO team this year.  

No, seriously, take a look. 

It's not helpful to know that I was actually in three inch heels for this photo (back row, center).  But my own height challenges aside...

For the first time ever, the entire team (students and leaders) gathered in Toronto for a sendoff hosted by the Canadian Math Society.  After getting in late Wednesday night (bubble tea in hand), it was our first day together as a group.

Held at the beautiful Faculty Club at the University of Toronto, proud parents, Rubik's cubing students, past participants, and various organizations came together to celebrate the achievements of our young math stars and wish them luck at the upcoming competition.  For myself, there was definitely an odd moment while the letter from the MP of Willowdale specifically called out that I was a resident of the riding...

After the event, I got soundly trounced at a game of Wizards by James and Victor while the other half of the team wandered to the gym (I definitely was not as health conscious at their age...).  Afterwards some of the team joined the reunion dinner for past IMO participants.  

Well.  Day One - success.  Though next time I'm going to win that card game.
